Developmental Assessments

Early detection matters because the sooner a child receives support and intervention for a developmental delay or condition, the greater chance that they have of achieving their highest potential. This is the belief that motivated Dr. Kelly Pham to start The Reach Center’s Infant and Toddler Motor Development Clinic with Shawn Leis of Little Feet Pediatric Therapy. Early detection is a pillar of that clinic, and additionally was a pillar of Dr. Singh’s work with Children’s National, where she worked for many years as a part of their NICU follow up clinic.

Dr. Singh believed that she would be able to offer an additional service to the ITMD clinic that would make an immense difference in the lives of its patients and their families. Reach Specialties is proud to be able to offer a new service- Developmental Assessments to the patients in the ITMD Clinic.

A Developmental Assessment appointment with Dr. Singh consists of the following:

A thirty minute parent interview to establish background, medical history, and learn parent questions and concerns.

A developmental test- specifically the Bayley Scales, fourth edition.

A thirty minute feedback session to discuss the results of this testing.

A developmental assessment is by no means a replacement for a comprehensive developmental evaluation- however it is a great option for some families in the ITMD clinic, because the assessment is specifically structured to occur alongside a typical appointment with Dr. Pham and Shawn! Fewer appointments, more efficient use of patient and clinician time, and more collaboration between providers are all incredible reasons that we are so excited to be able to offer this service to families.

The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Developmental measure a child’s motor, social, and cognitive development. The Bayley assessment is an important tool for clinicians to identify potential developmental concerns and delays. You can learn more here.

Developmental assessments are available on a very limited case by case basis to children outside of the ITMD clinic. The length of this appointment is 2 hours, and the cost is $400-$600, depending on additional collaboration with your child’s providers after the appointment is complete.
